Kevin J. Harrell, creator of KJH Bow Ties & Accessories, started making bow ties in 2013 while serving as university health educator and adjunct professor. He challenged himself to wear a bow tie to class every day, found himself shopping for bow ties with unique patterns and colors, but was unable to find exactly what he desired. He decided to make his own.  Being self-taught, Kevin searched the internet for information on bow tie construction, borrowed his mother’s sewing machine, and picked up fabric from a local fabric store.  He was quite pleased with the result of his first attempt and soon after had amassed quite a collection.  Kevin was encouraged by friends and family to start a bow tie business.

After starting KJH Bow Ties & Accessories, Kevin realized that about half of his customers were women buying bow ties for the men in their lives. His immediate thought was that clients would spend more money if they could buy something for themselves. To better serve his client base, Kevin started using leather and embroidery to make unique clutches, purses, and wallets. He later made leather belts, sunglasses and tech cases, scarves, and even leather earrings and lapel pins.

KJH Bow Ties & Accessories sources materials from around the world and uses clean lines, unique shapes and pops of color to create stylish and sophisticated products.  The focus is always on high quality materials, creativity, and excellent craftsmanship.  Kevin’s work has found its way in the hands of such celebrities as Common, Lalah Hathaway, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Matthew Knowles, and Lonnie Bee.
